Dr. Jack Hand Legacy Foundation Officially Kicks Off

May 8, 2014

Dr. Jack Hand Legacy Foundation Launches May 8th with a Night of Song and Celebration.

(St. John’s, NL): On Thursday, May 8, 2014 Dr. Jack Hand Legacy Foundation, in aid of the life work of the late Dr. Jack Hand will be holding their Launch event. Funds raised will help families with the expenses required to stay by their sick child’s side during treatment at the Janeway for Hematology or Oncology-related illness. The night will consist of two events, which will be headlined by Alan Doyle celebrating Dr. ‘Jack’s’ life in music and song with Special Guests performing alongside him throughout the evening.

The launch will begin with a concert series at Gower Street United Church. Various youth choirs from across the province will perform and will be joined on stage with Alan Doyle to sing a song written for the Foundation. Immediately following the choir series, the Rockhouse will host a night filled with entertainment with Alan Doyle and friends to commemorate the life and work of Dr. Jack Hand.

Dr. Jack Hand stayed with patients every step of the way. From diagnosis to treatment to the best and worst outcomes, the families of the children he treated felt he was right by their side through it all. His humour, ability and compassion were as much a part of a child’s recovery from cancer as the medicine itself. Although we lost “Dr. Jack” in 2012, the Dr. Jack Hand Legacy Foundation wishes to fulfill his life work and help children suffering from a Hematology or Oncology-related illness.
